Challenge
The client’s Network Integration Team (NIT) faced significant logistical and operational friction while supporting field technicians rolling out critical wireless infrastructure nationwide. Due to Australia’s vast geography, the team had to navigate complex cross-border time zones, remote site deployments, and strict access windows, including mandatory weekend work.
Compounding these geographical hurdles, the unpredictable nature of field performance demanded highly adaptive support that extended well beyond standard business hours. From a workflow perspective, the legacy system for declaring sites Ready For Use (RFU) was heavily fragmented. It relied on disjointed, email-heavy communication paths that made tracking nearly impossible, creating a severe operational bottleneck of sites either stalled in the acceptance phase or sidelined by unresolved technical faults.
Solution
To modernise operations and accelerate the deployment pipeline, a highly flexible, distributed support framework was introduced alongside a complete overhaul of legacy workflows. The core initiatives focused on operational resilience, process consolidation, and technical standardisation, including:
Creation of a distributed and flexible Workforce including being fully equipped Work From Home (WFH) model, with the NIT team was distributed across Australia. This allowed for staggered start times to seamlessly cover various time zones, after-hours requirements, and weekend restrictions.
The use of standardised documentation, which the team heavily utilised and continuously updated detailed methods of procedure. These step-by-step guides ensured that any new hardware or software implementations were easily actionable for all teams involved in building a site.
Process Consolidation (SOA Transition) meant that the team transitioned from the legacy RFU model to a consolidated Site On Air (SOA) notice. This eliminated excessive email trails by collating all necessary handover information into a single, streamlined communication once a site was built and ready for service.
A dedicated Quality Assurance Squad was established to manage contractor site acceptance requests. They rigorously reviewed colleague and field team builds to ensure sites were fully functional, alarm-free, and met strict NIT standards before formal handover.
