We have a current opportunity for a Java Developer on a contract basis. The position will be based in Canberra. For further information about this position please apply.


The Java development expert engages in the design and the development of high quality solutions to system issues/problems to support the business and technical requirements.
The role solves highly complex problems. This role exercises a considerable degree of independence and undertakes a technical leadership role, with work being performed under general guidance of senior management.

General duties include:
Extensive experience in Java, JSP and Spring MVC development in a large scale environment
Perform and manage analysis, design, development, pro-typing, unit testing and maintenance activities;
Solve highly complex problems and deliver high quality solutions;

Perform high level analysis of technical requirements to support program evaluation with proposed solutions;
Undertake technical design and development of highly complex custom solutions and/or standard conversion and migration solutions;

Proactively share knowledge and expertise as the Subject matter Expert and provide assistance and mentorship to less experience colleagues;
Manage the release and ensure go-live production support and maintenance for the teams developments;

Ensure compliance with endorsed software development methodologies;
Provide support to development teams to ensure high quality custom solution realization;
Prepare and review a range of written material which may include technical and
corporate documentation;
Provide detailed, specialist technical advice to the Executive where appropriate;

Engage and partner with other agencies and service providers to build service delivery capability;
Attend interagency meetings and forums to influence business outcomes and share information;

Influence and contribute to ICT strategy, resolving conflicts as needed; and Encourage and support continuous improvement. Duties and development technologies specific to this role include:

Design and develop high quality code with minimal or no supervision in a high fast paced
development environment;
Work within development standards and in alignment with design patterns;

Maintain development objects required for the program; Ensure governance, documentation and coding standards are maintained and quality is adhered to;

Maintain technical documentation;
Support during testing cycles including System Integration Testing (SIT), User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and during deployments/releases.

Mandatory Criteria

1. Five + (5+ years') experience developing applications using Java, JSP and Spring MVC in Government or industry equivalent.

2. Demonstrated strong communication skills, both when writing documentation and when writing code.

Weighted Criteria

1. Demonstrated experience working using both Agile and Waterfall methodologies.

2. Understanding of HTIP request/response protocol.

3. Experience developing web applications using Angular (2.0 - @latest) using Typescript.

4. Proficiency with any of the below:

* Spring Security
* JQuery
* Bootstrap
* Angular JS
* Consuming OData services using a Java client.
