Oracle Cloud Migration Engineer | 6-Month Initial Contract

FinXL IT Professional Services is partnering with a major government client to support a major initiative to exit existing datacentres by migrating workloads from physical platforms, specifically Solaris SPARC, to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). We are seeking a senior Oracle Cloud Migration Engineer to join the team for a 6-month initial engagement with high extension potential.

The Opportunity

This is a critical role focused on executing complex migrations while serving as a technical mentor to uplift the internal team's capability. The goal is to ensure the organization becomes self-sufficient in architecting, deploying, and supporting OCI services.

Key Responsibilities

• Cloud Migrations: Lead end-to-end migrations from on-premises to OCI, including discovery, dependency mapping, and cutover activities.

• Oracle Database Engineering: Conduct migrations into DB Systems and Autonomous Database, performing readiness checks and designing minimal-downtime plans.

• Infrastructure & Landing Zones: Design and deploy OCI compute, networking, and storage while refining landing zone patterns aligned with enterprise governance.

• APEX & ORDS Management: Deploy, configure, and maintain APEX and ORDS environments, assisting with technical troubleshooting and upgrades.

• Automation & IaC: Build and improve Terraform modules and develop automation scripts (Bash, Python, PowerShell) to streamline infrastructure delivery.

• Capability Uplift: Lead structured knowledge transfer through workshops, code reviews, shadowing, and the creation of reusable runbooks.

Technical Requirements

Essential (Must Have):

• OCI Hands-on Expertise: Proven experience with OCI compute, networking, storage, IAM, security, and monitoring.

• Migration Track Record: Demonstrated success in migrating servers and Oracle databases (19c/21c) into OCI.

• Database Operations: Deep knowledge of RMAN, Data Guard, patching, recovery, and performance tuning.

• APEX/ORDS: Extensive experience in APEX/ORDS platform administration and architecture.

• Automation/IaC: Proficiency in Terraform, Git, and scripting (Bash, Python, or PowerShell).

• Governance: Strong understanding of cloud governance, landing zones, and cost optimization.

Desirable (Highly Regarded):

• Operating Systems: Experience with Oracle Linux or RHEL.

• Cost Control: Familiarity with automated tagging, hibernation, and cost control patterns.

• Regulated Environments: Previous experience in Government or highly regulated enterprise settings.
