Risk and Governance Specialist - Financial Services (6-Month Engagement)

An exciting 6-month opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled Risk and Governance Specialist to join a leading organization in the financial services industry. This is an instrumental role within a growing risk management team that focuses on prudential regulation, regulatory compliance, and leading second-line risk functions. Position Purpose: With the superannuation industry undergoing significant changes, including increasing regulatory pressures, technological disruption, and evolving member expectations, the role of the Risk and Governance Specialist will play a key part in adapting to these challenges. Reporting to Line 2 in the Group Risk domain, you will oversee governance, delegation of authority, financial accountability, and whistleblowing management, ensuring key risk and governance processes are implemented across the organization.

As part of the role, you will support the Trustee's implementation of the Member Outcomes through Risk Excellence (MORE) Program and collaborate with senior leadership, executives, and regulators to deliver on key initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to Line 2 in Group Risk to implement updated Policies, Frameworks, and Standards, including:
    • 3 LoA Realignment
    • Risk Taxonomy
    • Risk Assessment & Control Framework
    • Risk Appetite & Policy Framework
    • Risk Reporting Standards & Analytics
    • Compliance Obligations Embedding
  • Conduct analysis to assess current state vs target state and contribute to policy drafts and framework updates.
  • Guide stakeholders and ensure implementation milestones are met.
  • Deliver training on risk frameworks and governance processes (face-to-face and e-learning).
  • Prepare reports, guidelines, and updates for project and business reporting.
  • Participate in Executive-Level Risk Committees and engage with senior leadership on key risk and governance matters.

Capabilities and Experience:

  • Proven risk advisory and/or governance experience (4+ years), ideally within the financial services sector.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements for superannuation and corporate governance.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to influence, negotiate, and manage conflict.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts and influence decision-making.
  • A strong growth mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement and high attention to detail.

Qualifications:

  • Essential: Tertiary qualifications in Business, Finance, Commerce, Law, or related field.
  • Desired: Post-tertiary qualifications in financial services, financial planning, superannuation, or risk management.
