Job description
FinXL IT is seeking an experienced Senior (Data) Business Analyst to support a strategic transformation program with a prestigious investment bank. This program focuses on driving business and process improvements, with an emphasis on leveraging emerging technologies to streamline manual processes such as reporting, invoicing, and operational work flows.
As a Senior Business Analyst, you will play a pivotal role within the data team, collaborating with Data Engineers and Data Architects. Your expertise will help translate complex technical requirements across customer data platforms and complex datasets, driving impactful business solutions. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a high-profile transformation initiative within the financial services sector.
Key Responsibilities:
Gather and document business requirements through stakeholder engagement, workshops, and analysis sessions.
Analyse and interrogate large volumes of structured data (primarily SQL-based) to generate insights that support business decisions.
Write and optimise complex SQL queries to extract, validate, and analyse customer and operational data.
Work with business stakeholders to gather and define requirements for reporting, identify opportunities for data-driven improvement, and support the migration from manual to automated reporting.
Develop and maintain data platform documentation, including table structures, data flows, and business logic.
Leverage data insights to improve operational efficiency and reporting accuracy across business units.
Contribute to process improvement initiatives aligned with AI and automation goals as part of the broader transformation program.
Key Requirements:
Proven experience as a Senior Business Analyst working in large data transformation projects, preferably in finance, capital, or liquidity-related systems.
A strong background in Capital Markets with a deep understanding of financial markets products.
Strong SQL skills, with the ability to read, write, and optimise complex SQL queries.
Solid understanding of data mapping, data lineage, data management, and reference data.
Ability to map and analyse existing processes, identify gaps, and recommend actionable improvements.
Demonstrated capability to work effectively within cross-functional teams and liaise with both technical and business stakeholders.
Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate business needs into actionable data and reporting requirements.
