Job description
FinXL IT Professional Services is a leading IT consultancy that partners with clients to bridge the gap between business needs and technology capabilities. Since 2003, we've been delivering high-value ICT services across government, finance, telecommunications, and enterprise sectors.
The Opportunity
FinXL IT is seeking an experienced Technical Business Analyst to join our team at a leading general insurance organisation, supporting major general insurance platforms. This is not a role for a generalist; we're looking for a domain expert who lives and breathes General Insurance (GI). You will serve as the critical bridge between business SMEs and technical engineering squads, ensuring complex insurance logic is translated into scalable, high-performing solutions.
This is an initial 12-month contract based in Sydney CBD with a hybrid working arrangement (2-3 days in the office).
Key Responsibilities
Technical Translation: Convert complex insurance business rules into detailed functional specs, user stories, and acceptance criteria (Gherkin/BDD).
Deep-Dive Discovery: Facilitate workshops to elicit requirements while analysing existing system architectures and data flows to identify constraints.
System & Process Mapping: Create "As-Is" and "To-Be" process maps and technical sequence diagrams illustrating data movement between front-end and back-end legacy systems.
Hands-On Data Analysis: Perform data profiling and validation using SQL to query databases and verify solution accuracy.
Stakeholder Navigation: Manage a diverse stakeholder web across brands, aligning competing priorities and providing expert push-back where needed.
Quality Assurance: Partner with QA teams to define test strategies and lead UAT to ensure the final product meets customer and business needs.
Non-Negotiable Requirements
To be considered, you must demonstrate a proven track record within the General Insurance sector (Claims, Policy Admin, or Underwriting).
GI Domain Expertise: Deep understanding of the insurance value chain, including Product Definition, Rating Engines, Premium Calculations, and Claims Workflows.
Platform Experience: Hands-on experience with core insurance platforms (e.g., Guidewire PolicyCenter/ClaimCenter, TIA, or similar legacy systems).
Technical Acumen: Proficiency in SQL for data extraction and the ability to read/understand XML/JSON structures for API-led integrations.
Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with the GI Code of Practice and compliance regarding customer data and policy disclosure.
Agile Delivery: Experience working in a squad-based model to deliver iterative improvements to insurance platforms.
Technical & Professional Requirements
- A Senior Business Analyst, with a strong background specifically within General Insurance.
- Strong SQL for data extraction; ability to read/understand XML/JSON structures for API-led insurance integrations.
- Agile GI Delivery: Experience working in a squad-based model to deliver iterative improvements to insurance platforms.
- Documentation: High proficiency in creating detailed Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) logic maps and technical functional specs.
